Trip to Kolkata after BE exams.

No one in the world loved and cared about me so much than my maternal grandma. For her, I am a new world. She calls me DADA (a bit embarrassing when someone else calls me like this but I love it when grandma does). Whenever she gets the knowledge of our arrival she makes arrangement of food (as we Bengali people are very much foodie) and specially for me by bringing some of my favorite Bengali Misti(Bengali word for sweet). I enjoy there only by eating various Bengali dishes made by my maternal aunties of which I never heard the names before. Whereas in the evening I spend my time by feeding 150 pigeons (people in Kolkata are crazy about pigeons. Don’t know why?) along with one my maternal uncle( next to my friend). After finishing it off, me along with my uncle use to rock the streets of Kolkata by having lots of junk food. Guys believe me, as far as metropolitan city is concerned, I’ll rate Kolkata the cheapest one for food. One thing which amazed me was the PUCKKA (in Pune we call it Pani-Puri) with an amazing taste. And surprisingly it was costing 2 pieces for a rupee. So guys it was like GET – SET – GO. Also various others were chowmen (noodles), different vegetable and non-vegetable chop (in Pune we call it wada), shingada (samosa – which was mind blowing with full of vegetable stuffing), etc. That’s what it makes Kolkata different from other cities.
But guys this time the scenario was totally different. It was the end of summer season and all of us expecting the rains to curb the heat. The temperature rises to 48°C in afternoon. With this we can say how hot will be the morning. If a Puneite will be left in such a temperature then he or she will get skin burns like I got it. I had never ever experienced such a temperature. For me, Kolkata was the city of rising sun (I know its Japan, but it is my personal opinion). The morning would be at 5 and I would get up at 6 with the rays of the sun. Then straight away I use to go to verandah where I sit with grandma who is busy chopping vegetables for afternoon’s food. I did not get that why always in verandah she chopped vegetables instead of posh kitchen in the bungalow. When inquired she told me that she loved the morning and she do not want to miss any moment of enjoying it. Then as time went the day use to get hotter and hotter. After fighting with the hot afternoon, in the evening I along with dad use to go to the banks of river Ganga for enjoying the fresh and cool air which use to flow with a great velocity. No food this time in the evening as we where not in a mood to eat in such a temperature. This time my maternal uncle was busy as there was blood donation camp organized by the club to which he headed. One interesting thing which I saw was the residents who turned out in large numbers and 40 - 45% were ladies. After donating the blood they were given a packed lunch box which contained a banana, two rasgullas, one rajbhog, a cake, farsan, biscuits, etc with coffee which was followed by a mutton feast at night. However, at the final day of departure we were greeted by a large traffic jam which made us reach Howrah Jn. late and fortunately we got the train to Pune.
