Memorable birthday of my L.I.F.E

It was 24th March 2005, when Jaidev, Amit and I were planning to do something on my birthday which we will remember throughout our lifetime. Mere partying, having alcoholic drinks (in 12th standard it was a big thing for us) will not help. We wanted a bash which we all can enjoy and remember it with a sweet smile on our faces. On breaking our heads the whole evening we came to conclusion that we all friends will celebrate it in an Orphanage in Shirgaon, Pune. We all agreed to the plan and decided to go in afternoon the very next day. Jaidev- our group fatty hero, arranged snacks, chocolates, cakes for the children. Even he arranged his car with a driver (we called him ANNA) so that there should not be any traveling problem.
The final day arrived. Jaidev along with his driver started picking up all of us, one by one, from our respective place. After picking up the last one (Kalya), we all were set for the destination. Like other junior college students, we filled the journey with all jokes and Hindi songs.
After one hour of travelling, we reached the destination. The Orphanage was situated in a remote place outside the city. The area was under-developed with many little shops, roof-top houses and kaccha road. We all started bouncing in the rhythm of the music which was been playing in the car as we started entering the road. Finally, after a 10 minutes travel from the main Pune-Mumbai highway we saw the big entrance gate of the Orphanage. We all unloaded all the foodstuffs and all of us together got inside the campus.
We all were welcomed by a prartna (prayer) by the children (all disciplined and well mannered) in a large hall which can accommodate about 100 children. It was then followed by a welcome and thanks giving speech by the rector. After the speech, we started distributing chocolates, cakes and other foodstuffs among the children. After interacting with some of the children, we came to know that they are very much happy staying over here but something was missing in their life. Then some of the children had shown us some tricks. One of it was a boy walking with the help of his hands with his head upside down and legs in air. After that we played gully cricket with gas cylinder as the stumps. It was really a enjoyable moment.
However, with endless joy the whole day came the evening. We went to Sai baba temple for evening aarti, which is situated next to the Orphanage building. After the aarti it was for us to say goodbye to them. Within such a short time we all developed such a strong feeling for each other that we were really feeling bad of leaving them. Then finally, we waved each other and left for our place. Lastly, the day was followed by a dinner at Ratna (restaurant in Pimpri, Pune) and we went home happily with the offerings of Lord Sai baba. That's why I say “I’ll remember it throughout my lifetime with a sweet little smile on my face..”
